The Water of Shiva
Shivambu Kalpa Vidhi
The Shivambu Kalpa Vidhi presents a dialogue between Shiva and Parvati on spiritual discipline, traditional practice, and the pursuit of longevity across 107 verses of the Damar Tantra.
"Oh Parvati! Those who practice this method can enjoy the fruits of their meditation and penance."
What is Shivambu?
Shivambu (Sanskrit: शिवाम्बु) means "the Water of Shiva"—from Shiva, signifying auspiciousness and supreme consciousness, and Ambu, meaning water. The term refers to the practice of drinking one's own urine for health benefits and spiritual development.
The practice is documented in the Damar Tantra, where Lord Shiva instructs the Goddess Parvati across 107 verses. These teachings cover collection methods, herbal preparations, massage techniques, seasonal protocols, and the progressive benefits that emerge through sustained practice.
In yogic literature, this practice is known as Amaroli—from Amara, meaning immortal. The Hatha Yoga Pradipika classifies it among the mudras for sublimating life force energy, describing it as a technique for serious practitioners pursuing purification and the awakening of kundalini.
Addressing the Reality
The concept of consuming urine provokes immediate resistance in most people. This reaction is understandable—modern Western culture conditions us to view bodily outputs as waste, something to eliminate quickly and never discuss.
Historical and modern practitioners have described the practice across several cultures. Former Indian Prime Minister Morarji Desai discussed his own practice publicly, while author John W. Armstrong published personal cure claims in 1944. These accounts are part of the historical record; they are not controlled clinical evidence.
Several medicines and skincare products use purified compounds that may be sourced from urine or manufactured to match compounds found in it:
- Premarin—conjugated estrogens from pregnant mare urine, among the most prescribed drugs in America
- Urokinase—a clot-dissolving enzyme extracted from human urine
- Menopur and hCG—fertility drugs derived from human urine
- Urea—the same compound in urine, used at 10-50% concentrations in therapeutic skincare
Purified pharmaceutical ingredients, however, are not equivalent to consuming untreated urine. Their existence helps explain urine's chemistry but does not establish the safety or effectiveness of urine therapy.
This site separates scriptural passages, practitioner testimony, and established medical facts wherever possible. It documents a tradition; it does not validate cure claims or replace qualified medical care.
